Reginald “Reggie” Carroll, 52, was killed in a shooting in Mississippi, according to Southaven Police, per deadline.com. The tragic incident occurred on August 20 when officers responded to a shooting on Burton Lane and found the Baltimore-based comedian with gunshot wounds. He was transported to Regional One Health in Memphis but died from his injuries.
Police have a suspect in custody who has been charged with Carroll’s murder. Early reports suggest the shooting was an isolated incident, and an investigation is ongoing.
Carroll was a beloved figure in the comedy community, known for touring with acclaimed comedians, including his close friend Mo’Nique. The Oscar-winning actress paid tribute to Carroll on her Instagram Story, reflecting on their time together on the road.
“This is why I say treat people the best you can because you never know if you’ll get a chance to see them again,” Mo’Nique said. “The last time me and my brother Reggie… was together, that’s what it was, an amazing time, being on tour together… so I have no sad tears because all of our times together was amazing.”
Baltimore’s Club Mobtown Comedy also honoured Carroll on social media, describing him as a great talent and an “OG” who supported the local comedy scene.
Beyond his stand-up career, Carroll’s credits included an appearance on the classic show Showtime at the Apollo in 2000, as well as an episode of the Moesha spinoff The Parkers. He also produced and appeared in the 2023 stand-up special Knockout Kings of Comedy and starred in the 2022 TV movie Rent & Go.
