“Peaky Blinders” creator Steven Knight to pen Denis Villeneuve’s next James Bond script

Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight has been hired to write the script for Denis Villeneuve’s upcoming 007 installment at Amazon MGM Studios, per variety.com. The news marks a major step forward for the highly anticipated film, which Villeneuve was officially appointed to direct last month.

Knight, a celebrated BAFTA-winning screenwriter, producer and director, is renowned for his work on the gritty gangster drama “Peaky Blinders,” starring Cillian Murphy. His extensive television resume also includes acclaimed shows like “See,” “SAS Rogue Heroes,” and “A Thousand Blows.” On the film side, Knight penned the Oscar-nominated screenplays for “Eastern Promises” and “Spencer,” and his first produced film, “Dirty Pretty Things,” earned an Academy Award nomination for best original screenplay.

Amy Pascal and David Heyman are set to produce the new Bond movie under their respective banners, Pascal Pictures and Heyday Films, with Tanya Lapointe executive producing. Sources indicate that the studio is aiming for a potential 2028 release, a timeline necessitated by the film’s ambitious scale. The next crucial step will be to cast the actor who will embody the suave superspy.

The development of a new Bond film has been a top priority for Amazon MGM Studios since its acquisition of MGM in 2021. This move signifies a new creative direction for the franchise, with Amazon MGM now holding creative control.
