Jacob Elordi returns to the spotlight for Emerald Fennell’s ‘Wuthering Heights’ adaptation

Jacob Elordi and Margot Robbie are set to ignite the screen in Emerald Fennell’s daring new take on Emily Brontë’s Wuthering Heights, a project so irresistible, it pulled Elordi out of a planned acting hiatus, per nme.com.

Elordi was ready to step away from the limelight—until Oscar-winning director Fennell sent a text he simply couldn’t ignore. The Saltburn and Euphoria star is now confirmed to play the brooding Heathcliff opposite Margot Robbie’s Catherine Earnshaw in Fennell’s highly anticipated adaptation of ‘Wuthering Heights. The film, produced by MRC and Robbie’s LuckyChap, is set to begin shooting in the UK in 2025, marking the third collaboration between Fennell and LuckyChap after the acclaimed Promising Young Woman and last year’s provocative hit Saltburn.

Fennell, celebrated for her dark, immersive storytelling, will write, direct and produce the adaptation, promising a fresh, contemporary edge to Brontë’s classic tale of passion and revenge. Elordi, who recently wowed audiences as Elvis in Sofia Coppola’s Priscilla, admitted he was planning a break from acting before Fennell’s offer landed in his inbox—a request he described as impossible to refuse.

Margot Robbie, riding high after the global success of Barbie, brings her star power to the role of Catherine, while also producing through LuckyChap. This marks her first on-screen collaboration with Fennell, though the pair worked together behind the scenes on previous projects. Robbie has praised Fennell’s fearless approach, hinting that this adaptation will push boundaries and spark conversation.

The casting of Elordi as Heathcliff has already stirred debate, given the character’s ambiguous ethnicity in Brontë’s novel, but the film’s high-profile pairing and Fennell’s track record have ensured it remains one of the most buzzed-about productions in development. With production set for next year, fans and critics alike are eager to see how this creative team will reimagine one of literature’s most enduring—and controversial—love stories.
