Davido drops new album ‘5ive’ teaser with Brenda Fassie-inspired single ‘Funds’

Davido has officially announced his fifth studio album, “5ive,” slated for release in March 2025. Alongside the album’s reveal, Davido dropped the lead single, “Funds,” featuring Nigerian rapper Odumodublvck and soulful vocalist Chiké, which blends diverse sounds and cultural themes.

“‘Funds’ isn’t just about money—it’s about the hustle, the mindset and the rewards of staying true to your grind,” Davido shared with Rolling Stone. “It’s a vibe that resonates across cultures.”

The song pays homage to South African legend Brenda Fassie, sampling her 1997 hit “Vuli Ndlela”, a timeless anthem that celebrated South Africa’s emergence from apartheid. Davido performed an unreleased version of “Funds” last month at his birthday concert in Atlanta’s State Farm Arena, thrilling fans with its infectious rhythm.

“5ive” is set to build on the global success of Davido’s 2023 album Timeless, which earned the singer his first three Grammy nominations, including Best Global Music Album. Tracks like “Feel” and “Unavailable” solidified Davido’s reputation as an Afrobeats pioneer.

This announcement follows his October collaboration with reggae artiste YG Marley on “Awuke”. Davido continues to push boundaries with “5ive,” promising “African pride and global sound” as he elevates Afrobeats to new heights.

As fans gear up for the March release, the energy surrounding “Funds”—with its nod to cultural icons and empowering message—sets the stage for what could be Davido’s most groundbreaking project yet.
