The Quramo Festival of Words kicks off today at Eko Hotels & Suites, Lagos, with a series of engaging masterclasses for creative enthusiasts. The festival, also known as QFest 2024, aims to inspire and educate participants across various aspects of the creative industry.
The day-long programme features sessions on diverse topics, catering to writers, poets and other creatives. Oyin Talabi starts the day with a session on breath work for creatives, followed by Mazi Nwonwu’s masterclass on speculative fiction. Legal experts Jumoke Coker and Babatunde Shobayo tackle copyright and intellectual property issues, while Sam Onyemelukwe shares insights on business structure for creatives.
Poet Aduke Gomez concludes the day’s sessions with a discussion on poetry’s role in society. Organisers anticipate high attendance, citing statistics that 80% of creative festival attendees report feeling more inspired and energised after such events.
The Quramo Festival of Words which takes place from October 2 to 6 at Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island with the theme, “The Shifting: Empowering voices… inspiring minds,” organisers say, promises to showcase the dynamic changes in Africa’s creative landscape and the transformative power of storytelling.
The five-day festival will bring together a diverse array of writers, filmmakers and creatives from across Africa and beyond. Mrs. Toke Benson-Awoyinka, Lagos State’s Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, will inaugurate the event, while Jonny Baxter, British Deputy High Commissioner, is set to deliver a goodwill message at the closing ceremony.
QFest 2024 offers an eclectic mix of panel discussions, masterclasses, film screenings, book presentations, and cultural exchanges. The programme is designed to cater to various interests and skill levels within the creative community.
