Snoop Dogg embarks on unlikely Olympic adventure

Snoop Dogg continues to surprise fans by ticking off unexpected items from his bucket list, with his latest endeavour being a guest commentator for NBC at the 2024 Summer Olympics trials, per billboard.com. Over the weekend, the rap icon took his participation a step further by competing in the 200m trial run in Oregon.

Sporting a Team USA shirt in honour of the late Kobe Bryant and American flag-themed pants, Snoop Dogg, 52, laced up his Nike sneakers and hit the track against renowned sprinters Ato Boldon and Wallace Spearmon on Sunday, June 23. Despite his best efforts, Snoop finished in a distant third place with a time of 34.44 seconds. To put this in perspective, the 2020 Olympic gold medalist completed the race in 19.62 seconds.

“34.44 for a 52-year-old? Ain’t bad,” Snoop remarked, clapping in approval upon seeing his time.

After catching his breath, Snoop turned his attention to the broadcast booth, where his humorous commentary on the steeplechase event quickly became a highlight. “Oh, he’s jumping on top of the hurdle. You can do that?! That was a cold trick right there. I like that one. Went off the tippy-top,” he exclaimed in surprise.

Fans on social media couldn’t get enough of Snoop’s entertaining presence. “NEED THIS IN THE OLYMPICS,” tweeted one fan, while another wrote, “Snoop gonna always be an icon.”

Snoop’s Olympic journey is far from over. He will be a regular part of NBC’s coverage team in Paris for the 2024 Summer Games, providing “regular reports” on the Olympic Primetime Show starting July 26.

Highlights of Snoop’s run and his lively commentary have been widely shared online, with clips capturing his unique contributions to the trials.
