Margot Robbie, renowned for her lead role in the 2023 blockbuster Barbie, addressed her Oscar snub for Best Actress with grace, bbc.com reports. Despite the film amassing eight nominations, fans expressed disappointment over Robbie’s omission from the Best Actress category.
In a recent SAG-AFTRA discussion, Robbie, also a producer on the movie, revealed, “There’s no way to feel sad when you know you’re this blessed.” Emphasising the film’s mission to “affect culture,” she considered this impact the “biggest reward.”
Robbie expressed greater concern for director Greta Gerwig’s non-nomination in the Best Director category. Praising Gerwig’s unique achievement, she stated, “What she did is a once-in-a-career, once-in-a-lifetime thing.” Despite disappointment, Robbie celebrated the film’s unexpected global success, earning $1.38 billion at the box office, surpassing industry predictions.
Supporting actors Ryan Gosling and America Ferrera, voiced disappointment, with Gosling emphasising, “There is no Ken without Barbie, and there is no Barbie movie without Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie.”
While Barbie secured nominations in various categories, Robbie reflected on the film’s profound cultural impact, exceeding expectations. She concluded, “It’s already done that and some, way more than we ever dreamed it would. And that is truly the biggest reward that could come out of all of this.”
