Ryan Gosling has officially joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Ghost Rider in a new feature film directed by Shawn Levy, Marvel Studios announced at San Diego Comic-Con, per movieweb.com.
The project, set for theatrical release in 2028, serves as a major addition to the studio’s upcoming slate following years of casting speculation.
The announcement confirms a secondary collaboration between Gosling and Levy, who recently completed work on Star Wars: Starfighter, scheduled to reach cinemas on May 28, 2027. Levy confirmed during the San Diego presentation that discussions for the Marvel project first developed while filming the upcoming Star Wars feature.
Details regarding which iteration of the character Gosling will portray remain unconfirmed. Ghost Rider was previously brought to the screen in live-action form by Nicolas Cage, who starred as Johnny Blaze in two standalone films, and Gabriel Luna, who played the Robbie Reyes incarnation on television.
The casting follows months of public interest, with Gosling confirming as recently as March that preliminary discussions with Marvel Studios were underway. The 2028 release will mark the anti-hero’s official feature-length debut within the main MCU continuity.
