Actor Robert Downey Jr. and director Joe Russo have reflected on their foundational work within the Marvel Cinematic Universe in an exclusive interview, ahead of Downey’s high-profile return to the franchise as the villain Doctor Doom in “Avengers: Doomsday,” per cbr.com.
Downey first launched the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2008 by starring as Tony Stark in Iron Man, a role he played for over a decade before his character sacrificed himself in Avengers: Endgame.
The creative partnership between Downey and directors Joe and Anthony Russo defined several of the franchise’s biggest milestones, including Infinity War and Captain America: Civil War.
As part of the promotional rollout for the upcoming slate, Marvel and Disney are scheduled to release an Avengers: Endgame encore presentation in theatres in September, featuring additional footage designed to set up the narrative for “Doomsday”. The upcoming crossover film marks Downey’s first major MCU appearance since his departure, shifting from his role as the franchise’s primary hero to its antagonist.
