Rachel Weisz has been photographed filming scenes for “The Mummy 4” in the UK, marking her return as Evelyn O’Connell for the first time since The Mummy Returns in 2001, per cbr.com.
The sequel reunites Weisz with franchise star Brendan Fraser and is scheduled for release on October 15, 2027.
Production is underway on “The Mummy 4,” with newly released set photographs offering the first look at Weisz in character. The actor last portrayed Evelyn O’Connell in 2001’s The Mummy Returns and did not appear in 2008’s The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, where the role was recast.
The new film reunites several key cast members from the original trilogy. Alongside Weisz and Fraser, John Hannah is returning as Jonathan Carnahan, Arnold Vosloo reprises his role as Imhotep, and Oded Fehr returns as Ardeth Bay.
Additional cast members include Michael Johnston and Numan Acar. Hannah recently confirmed the scale of the reunion, stating that “everyone’s back” for the latest instalment.
Industry reports suggest the sequel may largely disregard the events of *The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor*, although official plot details have not been announced. The film’s final title has also yet to be confirmed.
Fraser recently said the production aims to deliver the long-awaited follow-up fans have sought for more than two decades. The actor also revealed he had been preparing physically for the role before filming began.
The sequel is directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, known for Scream and Ready or Not. David Coggeshall wrote the screenplay, while Sean Daniel, William Sherak, James Vanderbilt and Kevin Jarre serve as producers.
Released in 1999, The Mummy became a major box-office success and spawned multiple sequels. Weisz’s absence from the third film was a longstanding point of discussion among fans, making her return one of the sequel’s most closely watched developments.
