Universal Pictures has scheduled the release of its long-awaited Snoop Dogg biopic for August 6, 2027, with Outer Banks actor Jonathan Daviss cast in the lead role as the hip-hop legend, per music-news.com.
Directed by Craig Brewer, the feature will trace the 54-year-old artist’s rise from his upbringing in Long Beach, California, to the top of the global music industry. Snoop Dogg is producing the project alongside Brian Grazer and Sara Ramaker, president of Death Row Pictures.
The film marks the first cinematic release from Death Row Pictures, the media division launched after Snoop Dogg acquired Death Row Records in 2022. The narrative will detail his early career following his 1990s signing to the label, where he collaborated with figures including Dr Dre and Tupac Shakur prior to the launch of his seminal debut album, Doggystyle, in November 1993.
The soundtrack will feature several of Snoop Dogg’s most famous tracks. Universal previously achieved major success in the musical biopic genre with the Oscar-nominated Straight Outta Compton, which grossed more than $200 million worldwide.
Beyond his multi-platinum record sales, Snoop Dogg has built a varied portfolio encompassing film acting, business ventures, and commercial endorsements. Universal Pictures chairwoman Donna Langley previously described the artist as a “singular icon” in popular culture, confirming the studio’s ambition to deliver a definitive document of his life and legacy.
