Korean-based Japanese girl group XG made a dynamic comeback on May 21 with their latest single “WOKE UP,” per nme.com. The septet, consisting of Jurin, Chisa, Hinata, Juria, Cocona, Maya and Harvey, released the single alongside a captivating music video at 6 pm KST. The futuristic visual depicts the members launching into space as the world around them disintegrates, enhancing the song’s powerful message.
The chorus of “WOKE UP” resonates with a defiant attitude: “Woke up lookin’ like this / So don’t get under my skin.” This marks the group’s first release of 2024, following an eight-month hiatus since their debut EP “New DNA,” which featured hits like “GRL GVNG,” “TGIF” and “New Dance”.
XG’s rise to fame began in late 2022 after a cypher by rappers Jurin, Maya, Harvey, and Cocona went viral on TikTok and YouTube. The group has since gained international recognition with singles such as “Tippy Toes,” “Mascara,” “Shooting Star” and “Left Right”.
Adding to the excitement, XG announced new Asia dates for their The First Howl world tour, including stops in Seoul, Taipei, and Singapore this July and August. More dates across Greater China, the Americas, Australia and Europe will be revealed soon, promising fans worldwide an electrifying summer.
