Wole Soyinka shuts down Abuja with reading from new books

Nobel laureate Professor Wole Soyinka held a reading in Abuja on Saturday May 8, 2021 in an event tagged ” An Evening with Wole Soyinka” put together by Roving Heights in conjunction with Orisun Gallery.

Moderated by Buchi Onyegbule of Abuja Literary Society, the octogenarian read excerpts from his book Chronicles of the Happiest People on Earth and then took questions in a very interactive session with an audience made up of literary enthusiasts and the cream of the diplomatic corps as well as politicians of various stripes.

Politicians in attendance included Former Bayelsa state governor, Senator Seriake Dickson, Minister of the Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, Senator Rochas Okorocha, Senator Smart Adeyemi and Abike Dabiri.

When asked whether he ever goes back to read his old works, Professor Wole Soyinka had the audience in stitches when he said – “I never go back to read my old books except I want to refer to something. Read them for pleasure? Oh, what horror!
