#RoundAboutTown With Henri Yire
If the show promoters, livespot have a sit down with the Flytime entertainment crew and pull in other notorious show promoters, maybe they can find a way to bring back sanity to the Lagos streets.
Maybe.
There are too many gigs this month and it has clogged our streets.
December Traffic has been epic!
My question is, how do they manage to ship the performing artistes through that phenomenal traffic to the event venue?
An O’Ride maybe.
I did 3 hours in traffic the other day just because I disregarded ‘Ngozi’ the Nigerian Google Map Voice and attempted to maneuver through the Landmark event centre area.
Ngozi was right, I should have just patiently waited out the 1 hour 30 minutes traffic on the Lekki expressway.
The plan is not to get unecessarily stressed in a bid to have fun this month.
Yeah, I know fun should come with some andrenalin-based activities but let’s not overdo it.
We still have 2020 to contend with right?
Here’s some help though. A few moderately-sane, stage-sturdy, completely safe events that will be worth your while this weekend.
Let’s go!

Born and raised in Benin City, Edozie Anedu is a self-taught artist whose style focuses on the human condition, socio political ideologies and pop-culture. Working primarily with oils on canvas and recyclable materials, Edozie employs an aggressive use of color with ill- drawn figures to express emotion, initiate conversation and catch attention. Edozie’s childlike and sometimes aggressive strokes make room for accidents and give his paintings that unique, seemingly effortlessly haphazard appearance. His current show consists of 18 new works – most of them formerly discarded, reworked pieces that lend their name to the exhibition title- Mistakes I Chose to Keep. Each piece telling a coming of age story – a journey of excitement, adjustments and hopeful rush to the future – while at the same time embracing moments of melancholy and memories of past people, places and things.

English PEN translation award winners revealed
Twenty books have won English PEN’s flagship translation awards, marking the highest number of awards ever given by the programme.
Books from 18 countries and 11 languages, including fiction, non-fiction, poetry, short stories and children’s literature, and—or the first time—a translation from Georgian, have all been recognised. Books are selected for PEN Translates awards on the basis of outstanding literary quality, the strength of the publishing project, and their contribution to UK bibliodiversity.
Will Forrester, translation and international manager at English PEN, said: “The movement of words and ideas across borders has never felt so urgent. These awards go to 20 vital, exceptional works of international literature, and mark extraordinary breadth and quality—with titles from across Africa, the Americas, Asia and Europe, and from small and large publishers alike.”
Daniel Hahn, chair of the PEN Translates selection panel, added: “English PEN has long argued for the broadest possible internationalism in our publishing world—not as a niche interest or a luxury, but as a cultural necessity. With each round, this our 15th, PEN Translates receives an ever-greater number of more competitive, more promising, more diverse submissions, from terrific publishers of all sizes who, even in a risk-averse business, continue to look out at the world with ambition. These 20 titles add to the bibliodiversity that UK readers can enjoy in 20 quite different ways.”

Ifeanyi Kalu’s Strides Across Facets
Nollywood actor/producer, Ifeanyi Kalu’s flexibility strides across many facets, which underscores his heart and passion for fashion designing, modeling, compering, and acting, writes Ferdinand Ekechukwu
Talented Nollywood actor/producer Ifeanyi Kalu is excited about his recognition at the recent ZAFAA Awards. The Zulu African Film Academy Awards (ZAFAA), also known as Zafaa Global Awards, is an annual ceremony that rewards African films in the Diaspora. It has been held in London, United Kingdom since inception in 2006. The 31-year-old actor won in the category for Best Supporting Actor in the movie Kuvana, at the award ceremony which held in Abuja for the first time.
The movie which featured the likes of Wale Ojo, Sambasa Nzeribe, Ivie Okujaiye and others, was directed by Edward Uka. Speaking on the award, the actor said: “It means a lot, shows I am doing something right. It also encourages me to do more, to work harder. The fact that I am nominated is enough reason to be convinced I am on the right track, and then winning puts me at a place of deep satisfaction, the simple reason being that I was thought of as a winner in my field, you can’t beat that.”
Ifeanyi who has featured in over a hundred movies was nominated alongside veteran Sam Dede, Deyemi Okanlawon, Daniel Lloyd, and Nchifor Valery from Cameroon.
It has been worthwhile experience acting wise for the “Lurikos” star, since he ventured into acting and later producing. The first movie (Lurikos) he produced and featured as the lead actor got good reviews, and aired on Africa Magic Showcase. He has his artistic eyes on more productions in the near future. Further on his involvement in Nollywood, he says it’s a journey. “In a journey you learn, you make wrong turns, you redirect your path, you meet people, you learn to be better, and if you are ambitious you will do better, gun for higher strata, and push beyond your limits.”
