Timi Dakolo addresses male vulnerability in ‘Brotherly’

Timi Dakolo has released a new single, “Brotherly,” in which he addresses his brother directly, offering reassurance that no burden need be carried alone.

Written in a calm, unhurried tone, the track moves through the weight of unmet expectations, stalled plans and the silence that builds around men who feel they must remain strong.

“I wanted to say what many men feel but rarely say out loud,” Dakolo said. “You do not have to carry everything by yourself.”

The chorus returns to a single, direct promise that he will come when called, anchoring the song’s emotional argument in something concrete.

The release marks a continuation of Dakolo’s approach to songwriting: personal and built around themes that move between the private and the universal.

Since winning Idols West Africa in 2007, the Jos-born artist has maintained a following drawn to his rich vocals and restrained storytelling, with previous work addressing love, faith, and domestic life.

“Brotherly,” distributed via ONErpm and now available on all major streaming platforms, arrives as a deliberate counterpoint to conventions around male stoicism, offering, in Dakolo’s framing, a version of brotherhood in which asking for help is permitted.
