PJ Morton to release double album ‘Saturday Night, Sunday Morning’ in June

Grammy Award-winning musician PJ Morton has announced the release of a new 18-track double album titled “Saturday Night, Sunday Morning,” scheduled for June 19, per ratedrnb.com.

The project, to be released via Morton Records and SRG-ILS Group, is divided into two distinct halves, dedicated to R&B and gospel music, respectively.

The album’s structure reflects Morton’s refusal to choose between the genres that have defined his career. He noted that while church and soul music are often viewed as separate spaces, he aimed to provide a soundtrack that mirrors the duality of life. The musician stated that he felt no need to choose one over the other for this project, asserting that he is “both Saturday night and Sunday morning”.

The first half, “Saturday Night,” focuses on R&B and soul, featuring collaborations with Keyon Harrold and Rukhsana Merrise. It includes the recently released single “Mutual”. In contrast, the second half, “Sunday Morning,” is a featureless gospel collection that includes the track “Mercy”.

This release marks Morton’s first project under a new partnership deal with the SRG-ILS Group. The artist expressed optimism about the collaboration, suggesting it will elevate the reach of his independent label, Morton Records.

The double album shares its title with Morton’s memoir, which was published in November 2024. According to the artist, the music serves as a sonic extension of his life story, exploring themes of independence, introspection, and the interconnectedness of his varied musical influences.

PJ Morton has long balanced a successful solo career with his role as the keyboardist for Maroon 5. This project highlights his standing as a bridge-builder between the secular and sacred music worlds, a position he has maintained since his early work in the New Orleans music scene.
