Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’ becomes highest-grossing R-rated film

Christopher Nolan’s cinematic epic The Odyssey has surpassed Deadpool and Wolverine to become the highest-grossing R-rated film in history, generating more than $1.34 billion globally, per gizmodo.com.

The milestone was achieved during the film’s fifth weekend at the box office, where it maintained its position as the number two movie ahead of new releases including The End of Oak Street.

The preceding record holder, Marvel’s 2024 sequel Deadpool and Wolverine, notably featured an extended sequence involving a Honda Odyssey minivans. Following the box office shift, actor Ryan Reynolds shared a video congratulating Nolan and the production team on the record.

The Odyssey now joins Todd Phillips’ Joker as one of only three R-rated films to cross the $1 billion threshold worldwide. Industry analysts are tracking its ascent toward the global top 20 charts, requiring approximately another $100 million to break into that bracket.

Meanwhile, competing blockbusters such as Spider-Man: Brand New Day continue strong performances higher up the all-time global rankings.
