John Steinbeck’s 1952 novel East of Eden has climbed to No. 1 on Amazon’s bestseller list following the October 1 release of Netflix’s limited series adaptation starring Florence Pugh, per variety.com.

First published in 1952, East of Eden is a multi-generational saga tracing the lives of the Trask and Hamilton families in California’s Salinas Valley in the years following the Civil War, concluding after World War I.
The Netflix series, created and co-written by Zoe Kazan, was first announced in June 2022 and released in full on October 1. Alongside Pugh, the cast includes Christopher Abbott, Mike Faist, Hoon Lee, Ciarán Hinds and Martha Plimpton. Kazan is the granddaughter of Elia Kazan, who directed the 1955 film adaptation starring James Dean.
