AZ Chike released his major-label debut studio album, No Rest for the Wicked, on September 18 via Warner Records, following high-profile co-signs and overcoming an early online leak, per billboard.com.
The 14-track project features production and contributions from Kendrick Lamar, Tyler, the Creator, Pharrell Williams, Sounwave, Terrace Martin and Hit-Boy. The release follows the South Central Los Angeles rapper’s breakout feature on Lamar’s 2024 track “Peekaboo,” which peaked at No. 13 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Writing for the album began in February 2024. Production blends West Coast foundations with personal vulnerability, addressing fractured family dynamics and industry pressures. An early unauthorized leak, attributed online to racially motivated motives, coincided with Thanksgiving outreach from Tyler, the Creator and album requests from Kendrick Lamar.
Chike prioritises written continuity over freestyle performance, noting that roughly 95% of the record was penned on mobile devices. Lead single “Look Like My Mama,” featuring Tyler, the Creator, accompanies a cinema-spoofing visual rollout.
A headline tour supporting the LP begins October 5 at Houston’s White Oak Music Hall, with a deluxe edition planned for subsequent months.
Rising from independent regional releases including 2016’s “Motion” and formation of the AZ Cult collective, Chike represents the structural influence of pgLang and West Coast tastemakers on contemporary rap sequencing and narrative discipline.
