The Pingyao International Film Festival has announced its full 10th anniversary lineup running from September 24–30 in Shanxi province, per variety.com.
The festival opens with a 4K restoration of Fei Mu’s 1948 classic “Spring in a Small Town” and closes with the mainland China premiere of Hong Kong dramedy “Good Trip”.
Founded by Jia Zhangke, the milestone edition features festival director Jia’s short “Torino Shadow” in a Fenjiu Night presentation. The Galas section showcases high-profile international titles including Cristian Mungiu’s “Fjord,” James Gray’s “Paper Tiger,” Marie Kreutzer’s “Gentle Monster,” alongside mainland China premieres for Na Hong-Jin’s “Hope” and Rodrigo Sorogoyen’s “The Beloved”.
Hidden Dragons competition highlights world premieres for Kethsvin Chee’s “Dead Tide,” Chengjie Cai’s “Suzhou Quartet,” and Niu Niu’s “Final Payment,” alongside Dongnan Chen’s documentary “Whispers in May”. Crouching Tigers presents international and regional titles like Simón Vélez’s “Gemstones” and Rafael Manuel’s “Filipiñana”.
Special presentations feature Liu Wenpu’s world premiere “A Better Jianghu” and a 4K restoration of Allen Fong’s 1986 film “Just Like Weather”. Ann Hui’s 1981 restoration “The Story of Woo Viet” anchors the East-West strand.
Anniversary tributes pair Fei Mu’s opening film with Pan Yilin’s documentary “Echoes of Fei Mu,” Roberto Rossellini’s “Generale Della Rovere,” and Alessandro Rossellini’s “The Rossellinis”. Memorial screenings honour late figures including Tony Rayns, Nansun Shi and Simon Field. A dedicated corner traces early short-film trajectories into feature selections.
