Durban FilmMart & MTN One TV launch pitch call for African filmmakers

The Durban FilmMart Institute has opened submissions for the MTN One TV pitch session, inviting African producers to submit film and television projects aimed at mobile-first and mass-market audiences for its upcoming 17th edition.

The call targets experienced producers with a minimum of seven years of professional industry experience operating through registered production companies in primary markets including South Africa, Nigeria, Ghana and Zambia.

Selected participants will pitch live during the annual market event scheduled for October 9 to 12 in Durban.

Submissions are open for diverse formats ranging from limited series of 6 to 8 episodes and standard scripted or unscripted series of 13 episodes to micro-drama formats consisting of 30 episodes designed for mobile viewing. Accepted genres include drama, reality, comedy, action, thriller, romance, and animation focusing on themes such as family, ambition, identity, and resilience.

Applicants must retain or control the underlying intellectual property and submit comprehensive creative and business documentation, including loglines, pitch decks, production schedules, and estimated budgets. Selected projects will receive 2 complimentary event accreditations, though participants remain responsible for their own travel and accommodation expenses.

Established in 2010, the Durban FilmMart serves as a premier business hub for the African film industry, running year-round development programmes and annual markets to facilitate investment and global competitiveness for continental content creators.
