A new musical charting the life and career of country music singer Dolly Parton is to transfer to Broadway this winter, following its world premiere in Nashville earlier this year, per faroutmagazine.co.uk.
Dolly: A True Original Musical will find its New York home at the St James Theatre. Preview performances are scheduled to begin on December 7, ahead of an official opening night on January 19, 2027, coinciding with Parton’s 81st birthday. The production is currently booking until November 21, 2027.
The venue is currently occupied by the musical Titanique, which is scheduled to close in September to make way for the new production.
Parton opted to develop her biography for the stage rather than a film biopic, writing several new songs for the show to complement her catalogue of classic hits. The production previously launched a global casting call to find multiple actors to portray the singer across different eras of her life. Full casting for the Broadway run will be announced at a later date.
Presale tickets will be released via the official website on July 8 at 10am local time, with general sales commencing on July 10 at 10am local time.
The staging follows a popular Broadway trend of biographical “jukebox” musicals focused on the lives of prominent musicians, following the commercial success of similar productions dedicated to Carole King and Tina Turner.
In a statement, Parton described her life as “a grand ole opera” and expressed her anticipation for the Broadway launch. Speaking on social media, she added that the musical focuses on her origins, losses, and experiences rather than superficial glamour.
