American rock band My Chemical Romance surprised fans by performing their rare track “Ambulance” live for the first time ever during their concert in Glasgow, Scotland, on July 4, per parade.com.
The unexpected live debut occurred during the second act of the concert, which forms part of the band’s ongoing global Black Parade Tour. Frontman Gerard Way introduced the song to the audience, noting that rhythm guitarist Frank Iero had sequenced the material, which originally featured on their 2013 compilation boxset, Conventional Weapons.
The Glasgow performance was structured into a distinct two-part setlist. The opening half focused heavily on tracks from the band’s seminal 2006 album The Black Parade, whilst the second half featured a spontaneous rotation of signature stadium anthems and deep-cut rarities, including “Na Na Na” and “Helena”.
The New Jersey four-piece, consisting of Gerard Way, Ray Toro, Frank Iero, and Mikey Way, are currently undertaking a comprehensive international tour spanning Europe, North America, and Southeast Asia. Following their stop in Scotland, the group are scheduled to play three consecutive nights at London’s Wembley Stadium beginning July 8, before heading to mainland Europe later this month.
Conventional Weapons was a series of ten shelved tracks recorded by the band in 2009 prior to their fourth studio album. The songs were eventually released in pairs over a five-month period between late 2012 and early 2013, making the Glasgow performance the first time any material from the “Ambulance” release has been brought to a live stage in thirteen years.
