Oyinkan Braithwaite has cemented her place as a literary standout with her new book, Cursed Daughters, which has been selected as one of the Best Books of 2025 by Amazon’s editorial team, per aboutamazon.com.
The highly-anticipated multigenerational saga from the Nigerian-British author of the critically acclaimed My Sister, the Serial Killer is ranked at number 14 on the influential list, which features the top 20 releases of the year.

Cursed Daughters, published by Doubleday, takes readers on a compelling journey following three Nigerian women; Monife, Ebun, and Eniiyi as they grapple with a persistent family curse that dooms their romantic lives. The curse, a legacy passed down through generations of Falodun women in Lagos, ensures that “No man will call your house, home. And if they try, they will not have peace,” forcing three generations of abandoned women to live under the same roof.
Moving across decades from 1994 to 2025, the novel masterfully blends superstition, duty and the ache of inherited trauma. It explores the mysterious fate of Monife, who drowns herself after heartbreak and the subsequent birth of her niece, Eniiyi, who is born on the day of Monife’s funeral and uncannily resembles her, leading the family to believe she is a reincarnation.
Amazon editor Kami Tei called the book, “A masterfully written tale of family and fate set in Nigeria, this is a must-read for anyone who loves family sagas with a supernatural twist.”
Braithwaite’s novel joins a prestigious group of titles on the Amazon editors’ list, which is topped by Patrick Ryan’s Buckeye. Other notable authors on the list include Taylor Jenkins Reid (Atmosphere), Ocean Vuong (The Emperor of Gladness) and R.F. Kuang (Katabasis).
The full list highlights the year’s standout literature, ranging from thrillers and memoirs to literary fiction, confirming Braithwaite’s place among the world’s most exciting contemporary writers.
Braithwaite’s Nigerian publisher is Narrative Landscape Press, which acquired the Nigerian rights to her work, including the bestselling novel My Sister, the Serial Killer, and have published the Nigerian edition of the book, which Braithwaite herself illustrated.
