What happens when the truth isn’t enough? This is the brutal question at the heart of Tyrone Terrence’s intense new play, “A Husband’s Wife,” which is set to grip theatre lovers this weekend. The production opens on Saturday, October 25 with another show on Sunday, October 26, 2025, at 7pm at an unconventional venue: 16 Oyinkan Abayomi Drive, Ikoyi, Lagos.
The play plunges into the tumultuous marriage of Femi and Tomi, whose “happy” vows are put on trial when Femi confesses to an affair with a younger woman. As Tomi fights not just for her marriage but for her sanity, the audience is treated to a brutal cocktail of lust, regret and the ultimate betrayal. “You think you know love? You don’t know this kind of ending,” the production promises.

The powerful drama relies heavily on the talent of its two leads, Paul Utomi and Tosin Adeyemi. Director Bimbo Olorunmola emphasises the play’s unique, dialogue-driven nature.
“The play is what you’d call ‘an actor’s play.’ It’s very much dialogue driven and relies heavily on the ability of the actors to convey the dialogues with the appropriate nuances,” Olorunmola explained. “Tosin Adeyemi needs no introduction on the Nigerian stage. With her talents, she basically picks herself. Paul Utomi is an on-screen regular with exceptional quality. Together, Tosin and Paul provide a cocktail of the required brilliance.”

Beyond the gripping narrative, “A Husband’s Wife” is making waves for its choice of venue. Director Olorunmola, an experienced hand in the theatre circuit, explains that the staging at 16 Oyinkan Abayomi Drive continues a long tradition of B-Rated Productions using irregular or unconventional theatre spaces.
This choice is a deliberate strategy to tackle the significant financial hurdle faced by young, ambitious theatre-makers.
“One of the major challenges facing the average theatre maker is access to theatre venues,” Olorunmola states. “There are very few purpose-built theatre venues and they are mostly beyond the financial reach of the producer.”
He hopes that by proving that quality theatre can thrive outside of major, costly arenas like the newly renovated Wole Soyinka Centre for Creative Arts (National Theatre) or Terra Kulture Theatre Arena, more producers will keep their passion burning. “We believe that having performances in smaller, more affordable unconventional spaces is the way to go. This gives producers more options and access. It also opens their eyes to possibilities beyond the conventional stage.”
Tickets are priced at N20,000 and must be purchased in advance, as there will be no tickets sold at the gate. Theatre enthusiasts are required to present a valid ID for entry.
