The National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB) has launched the Nigeria Indigenous Language Film Showcase (NILFS 2025), a groundbreaking initiative aimed at promoting and preserving Nigeria’s rich linguistic diversity through cinema. The showcase is a nationwide call to action for young filmmakers to produce films in indigenous languages beyond the dominant trio of Yoruba, Hausa and Igbo.
NILFS 2025 seeks to give a voice to countless other Nigerian languages, encouraging filmmakers to tell unique stories that reflect their local cultures. To participate, films must be officially classified by the NFVCB, and a special discounted classification fee of ₦25,000 has been introduced to ease the financial burden. A separate registration fee of ₦10,000 is also required.
The one-day event, scheduled for September 2025, will feature a jury-selected lineup of finalists. Winners stand to gain significant prizes, including cash rewards of up to ₦5 million and valuable film production equipment.
This initiative aligns with global efforts to safeguard cultural heritage and indigenous languages, with the NFVCB championing this cause in Nigeria.
Filmmakers interested in this unique opportunity can submit their entries until September 10, 2025. For more information, visit the NFVCB website at https://www.nfvcb.gov.ng/nigeria-indigenous-language-film-showcase-nilfs/
