Nicolas Cage to star in “True Detective Season 5”

Nicolas Cage is in talks for the lead role in the fifth season of HBO’s Emmy-winning crime anthology, True Detective, per deadline.com. Sources close to the production say the Oscar-winning actor is being considered for the part of Henry Logan, a New York detective at the heart of the new season’s mystery.

The new installment marks the return of Issa Lopez, the celebrated writer and showrunner behind the highly successful fourth season, Night Country. While an official deal has not yet been finalised, the move would see Cage return to series television for the first time in his career, following his upcoming role in Prime Video’s Spider-Noir.

HBO’s Head of Drama Series and Film, Francesca Orsi, revealed the new season will be set in New York’s Jamaica Bay, promising a powerful new milieu for the show. Production is scheduled to begin in 2026, with a premiere date slated for 2027.

The original True Detective was led by Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson, with subsequent seasons starring Colin Farrell, Mahershala Ali, and most recently, Emmy winner Jodie Foster in Night Country.

Lopez has hinted at connections between the new season and the events of Night Country, promising a fresh narrative that also honours the anthology’s shared universe.
