Mahershala Ali performs all his own stunts in Bassam Tariq’s crime drama Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother, which world-premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival ahead of a September 25 limited release, per collider.com.
Set in Texas, the R-rated 112-minute feature stars Ali as Latif, a devout Muslim contract killer with a strict ethical code who attempts to leave a life of violence following his wife’s death. When employer Mike, played by Laith Nakli, rejects the exit, Latif flees across Houston to protect his three children.
The ensemble cast includes John Cho, Giancarlo Esposito, Adia, and Tramell Tillman. Director Tariq blended spiritual westerns, samurai cinema, and vibrant cultural palettes to shape the film’s visual identity.
Addressing tight rehearsal schedules, Ali admitted the climactic fight sequence generated rare anxiety, noting, “your heart is outside of your body a little bit.” Tariq confirmed Ali completed every stunt personally because “his face is in it,” combining demanding dramatic performances with physical choreography. Ali described executing the sequence as a long-held ambition as a former athlete.
Following select screenings on September 25, 2026, Amazon MGM Studios releases the crime drama nationwide on October 9, 2026.
