Cynthia Erivo’s highly anticipated film adaptation of “Prima Facie” is set to begin shooting at London’s Story Works Studios, per screendaily.com.
The UK-Australian co-production, the first independent feature to be filmed at the new facility, is an adaptation of Suzie Miller’s Tony- and Olivier-award-winning play.
Produced by Australia’s Bunya Productions and the UK’s Embankment Films, Miller herself has adapted the acclaimed play for the screen, with Susanna White directing and Erivo in the lead role.
Story Works Studios, founded by UK producers Damian Keogh and Simon Vaughan, opened last year at a former brewery in Richmond. It has since hosted large-scale projects like the Disney+ series “A Thousand Blows” and Universal Pictures’ “Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale.” The studios’ co-founder, Simon Vaughan, expressed excitement about supporting their first independent feature, noting that the studio is offering a discounted hire fee for the production.
Adrian Wootton, chief executive of Film London, praised the move, highlighting that it demonstrates how studios are becoming more accessible to independent producers who may have previously believed they couldn’t afford larger facilities.
The production is scheduled to wrap in November, with additional filming taking place across London.
