Music legend Bob Dylan is set to unveil a new dimension of his artistic prowess this fall with the release of “Point Blank (Quick Studies),” a new art book arriving on November 18th from Simon & Schuster, per variety.com. This highly anticipated collection will showcase nearly 100 never-before-seen black-and-white drawings created by Dylan between 2021 and 2022.
These “quick studies” offer a rare glimpse into the creative process behind Dylan’s larger “Point Blank” painting series. The drawings, diverse in subject matter, range from intimate portraits and still lifes to expansive urban landscapes and capturing fleeting moments. Subjects as varied as roller-skating lovers, a Parisian canal, and even a simple roll of Scotch tape highlight Dylan’s keen observational skills.
Each drawing is accompanied by insightful prose vignettes from Eddie Gorodetsky, Jackie Hamilton, and Lucy Sante, providing context to Dylan’s famously ambiguous narratives. Sean Manning, editorial director at Simon & Schuster, praises the collection for its ability to capture “contradictory emotions in a single image.”
Dylan’s visual art has long been a parallel to his iconic music career, appearing on album covers and formally exhibited since 2007. This new book further solidifies his standing as a multifaceted artist. The release of “Point Blank” will also coincide with the first unabridged audiobook edition of Dylan’s celebrated 2004 memoir, “Chronicles: Volume One,” narrated by Sean Penn. “Point Blank” is available for pre-order on Amazon for $45.
