Dua Lipa Crowned PPL’s Most Played Artist of 2024

Dua Lipa has been named PPL’s Most Played Artist of 2024, ending Ed Sheeran’s three-year reign at the top, according to a musically.com report. The Phonographic Performance Limited (PPL) rankings, which track radio, TV and public venue plays across the UK, placed the British superstar ahead of Taylor Swift, Sheeran, David Guetta and Coldplay.

This marks Lipa’s second time topping the chart after her 2020 win. According to PPL, her music was played an average of 400 times daily in 2024, with her hit “Houdini” leading the charge. The achievement comes amid mixed reactions to her latest album, Radical Optimism, which, despite a strong debut, has lagged behind her record-breaking Future Nostalgia in streaming numbers.

PPL’s data highlights that streaming isn’t the only measure of success, as Lipa’s dominance in public spaces and broadcasts underscores her enduring appeal. Meanwhile, Noah Kahan’s “Stick Season” was named the most-played track of the year, followed by Teddy Swims’ “Lose Control” and Benson Boone’s “Beautiful Things”.

The rankings also spotlight the strength of British talent, with 70% of the Top 10 artistes hailing from the UK, including Myles Smith, Coldplay, and Lipa.

PPL CEO Peter Leatham praised the results, noting the rise of new UK acts as a sign of a vibrant music scene.
