This April, apexart São Paulo will host “Text Me When You Get Home (TMWYGH),” an exhibition curated by Brazilian artist and human rights practitioner Isadora Cardoso. Running from April 5 to May 4, 2025, the show brings together the works of seven artists to explore the universal experiences of womanhood, resilience and the pursuit of safety in a world shaped by systemic gender-based violence, according to a statement.
The exhibition’s title, “Text Me When You Get Home,” resonates as a phrase uttered by women across cultures and languages—a simple yet profound expression of care and vigilance. Through a diverse array of mediums, including photography, painting, ceramics, textiles and interactive installations, the exhibition delves into the shared struggles and solidarity that bind women globally.
Featured artists include Ameyalli Mañon-Ferguson, Bruna Pereira, Chanti Mañon-Ferguson, Gabby Vazquez, Isabella de Souza Teixeira, Isadora Cardoso and Weam Elsheikh. Their works collectively challenge societal norms and highlight the intersections of identity, surveillance and resistance. Isabella de Souza Teixeira’s “Unlacing’ (2025), a striking photograph measuring 29.8 cm x 42 cm, sets the tone for the exhibition, offering a visual metaphor for the unravelling of societal constraints.
Cardoso, a Columbia University graduate with a Master of Art, describes the exhibition as a “celebration of matriarchal narratives and a call to action against systemic violence.”
She explains, “TMWYGH is about reclaiming power and creating spaces where women can feel free, seen, and heard. It’s about honoring the invisible threads that connect us.”
The exhibition’s themes are as varied as its mediums. Paintings draw attention to the intersections of surveillance and queerness, while beaded works illuminate the role of visual culture in Indigenous futurity. Ceramic and textile pieces, adorned with weaving and written language, evoke ceremonial practices, symbolising hope and prayer for the safety of others.
One of the standout features of “TMWYGH” is its use of experimental storytelling. Digital works and data visualisation complement traditional fine art, creating an immersive experience designed to evoke visceral, emotional responses. Interactive installations invite visitors to engage deeply with the narratives, fostering a sense of global solidarity.
“Text Me When You Get Home” was selected through apexart’s Open Call, a competitive program that supports innovative curatorial projects. The exhibition is part of apexart’s ongoing mission to promote contemporary art that sparks dialogue and drives social change.
The opening reception will take place on April 5, 2025, at 6 pm at apexart São Paulo, located at Rua Nilo, 478. The gallery will be open to the public from Tuesday to Sunday, 2:30 pm to 10:30 pm.
