Bookshop.org has announced a charitable initiative to celebrate International Women’s Day 2025, partnering with the Women’s Prize Trust to support women in literature and beyond, per womensprize.com. From 8–9 March, 10% of every book sale on Bookshop.org will be donated to the Trust, while also bolstering independent bookshops across the globe.
This initiative aims to raise funds for the Trust’s mission to create equitable opportunities for women in the literary world. The proceeds will support programmes like Discoveries and Writers’ Room, which empower emerging women writers, as well as the Trust’s prestigious prizes: the Women’s Prize for Fiction and the Women’s Prize for Non-Fiction.
2025 marks a significant milestone for the Trust as it celebrates the 30th anniversary of the Women’s Prize for Fiction and builds on the success of its inaugural Non-Fiction Prize. The charity drive coincides with the longlist announcement for the Fiction Prize on 4 March, creating a weekend of literary celebration and advocacy.
Claire Shanahan, Executive Director of the Women’s Prize Trust, expressed her gratitude: “We’re thrilled by Bookshop.org’s generous support. This partnership not only champions women’s voices but also benefits independent booksellers, who play a vital role in nurturing writers and communities.”
Bookshop.org is calling on authors, publishers, and influencers to join the campaign, which kicks off on 8 March. Readers are encouraged to participate by purchasing books and spreading the word on social media.
