The Centre for Contemporary Art (CCA), Lagos, is set to unveil the exhibition, “Archives and Memories” on February 12.
This immersive showcase, according to the centre, promises to take visitors on a profound journey through history, personal narratives and collective memories, offering a unique lens into Nigerian and African culture.
Running from February 12 to May 31, the exhibition will feature works by six acclaimed artists: Ndidi Dike, Ngozi-Omeje Ezema, Odun Orimolade, Taiye Idahor, Temitayo Ogunbiyi and Wura-Natasha Ogunji.
Each artist brings a distinct perspective, blending traditional and contemporary mediums to explore themes of identity, heritage, and the passage of time. From photography and installation art to performance and mixed media, the exhibition highlights the diversity of artistic expression in Nigeria and beyond.
The opening event, scheduled for 4-7pm at CCA’s iconic space on 9 McEwen Street, Yaba, will be a celebration of art, culture and community. Guests can expect an evening of thought-provoking displays, engaging conversations, and the opportunity to connect with some of Nigeria’s most innovative artists.
Founded in 2007 by the late Bisi Silva, and now with Oyindamola Faithful as Artistic Director, CCA, Lagos has become a cornerstone of Nigeria’s contemporary art scene. The centre has always been dedicated to fostering critical discourse around visual art and culture, with a particular focus on underrepresented mediums such as photography, film, video and performance art. Over the years, CCA has hosted over 100 exhibitions, supported more than 500 artists and established itself as a hub for artistic and intellectual exchange.
“Archives and Memories” calls on art enthusiasts, cultural historians or those who are simply curious to engage with the stories that shape us. It promises to be an unforgettable exploration of art, memory and the enduring power of storytelling.
