Frankie Beverly and Maze’s ‘Before I Let Go’ strikes platinum decades later

Frankie Beverly and Maze’s iconic track “Before I Let Go” has achieved platinum certification from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), more than 40 years after its original release and just months after the legendary artist’s passing, per vibe.com.

The single, originally released in 1981 from the band’s live album, has transcended generations, becoming a cultural touchstone in R&B music. Originally peaking at No. 13 on the Billboard R&B chart, the song’s lasting impact was further cemented by Beyoncé’s memorable reimagining during her groundbreaking 2018 Coachella performance.

Beverly, who passed away on September 10 at 77, left an indelible mark on the music industry. His family’s poignant statement emphasised his deep commitment to music, family and community, describing him as someone who “lived his life with pure soul.”

The platinum certification arrives as a posthumous honour, highlighting Beverly’s enduring musical legacy. Following his death, the artist experienced a remarkable resurgence, securing three posthumous top 10 entries on Billboard’s R&B Digital Song Sales chart.

“Before I Let Go” represents a celebration of a timeless artistic contribution that continues to resonate with audiences across decades.
