Bims drops genre-bending ‘Unorthodox’ EP, blending Afrobeat roots with modern soundscapes

Bims has unveiled his highly anticipated EP, Unorthodox, a captivating exploration of love, life, and personal experiences. Hailing from a musical background steeped in the rich traditions of Afrobeat, Fuji and Apala, Bims’ innate talent is further fueled by formal training, propelling him to the forefront of the Afro-fusion scene, according to a statement.

Unorthodox opens with the vibrant and celebratory “Casamigos” featuring Tiphyz, setting the tone for an EP that seamlessly blends the old and the new. The project’s crown jewel, however, is the infectious “Amapiano Remix” featuring Zlatan, the undisputed king of Zanku music.

Originally a fan favourite, the remix, produced by Energyboiy and Rewardbeatz, elevates the original’s message of joy and love, offering a sonic escape from life’s challenges.

Bims’ emotional depth is on full display in tracks like “Why” and “IFE,” where he delves into the complexities of love. “Why,” with its heart-wrenching lyrics, captures the confusion and longing inherent in love, while “IFE” showcases Bims’ unwavering devotion.

The EP closes on a high note with “Make Una Dance,” a feel-good dance anthem featuring the legendary Sir Shina Peters. This collaboration beautifully bridges the gap between generations, solidifying Bims’ position as a dynamic force in Afro-fusion, adeptly merging tradition with contemporary sounds.
