The Booker Prize Foundation has announced that it will be showcasing six independent bookshops from across the UK who are hand-selling this year’s nominated books.
The chosen bookshops will be spotlighted on the Booker Prizes website and social channels and will each receive 25 limited edition Booker Prize 2023 tote bags to give away to customers, plus 25 signed book plates from the winning author. One of the six spotlighted bookshops will also be selected at random to receive two tickets to the Booker Prize 2023 award ceremony and dinner on 26th November at Old Billingsgate in London, including an overnight stay and travel expenses. Independent bookshops can find out more, including details of how the six will be chosen, and enter at the prize’s website by Wednesday 6 September 2023.
The shortlist for the Booker Prize 2023 will be announced by chair of the judges, Esi Edugyan, on Thursday 21st September during an evening reception at the newly-reopened National Portrait Gallery in London. The announcement will be livestreamed to the public from 7.30 pm via the Booker Prize website and all of the Booker Prizes’ social platforms. The shortlist of six books will be chosen by the Booker Prize 2023 judging panel. Alongside the twice-shortlisted novelist Esi Edugyan (chair), the panel comprises: actor, writer and director Adjoa Andoh; poet, lecturer, editor and critic Mary Jean Chan; author and professor James Shapiro; and actor and writer Robert Webb. The six shortlisted authors will each receive £2,500 and a specially bound edition of their book. The longlist was announced on 1st August 2023.
