As has been the case over the years, the conversation around books and art will be peppered by performances by some of Nigeria’s greatest jazz artistes. It is a feast no one should pass up.

The Nigerian Highlife RatPack
Highlife music is a fusion of African traditional rhythms and Latin/Caribbean melodies and Big Band Swing Jazz. This concert shall showcase the works of four of the greatest vocalists of the golden age of Big Band Highlife: Bobby Benson, Tunde Oshofisan (Roy Chicago Orchestra), Celestine Ukwu, Rex Lawson and Inyang Henshaw. All of these performed by the West African Highlight Collective. The band shall be led by the legendary Chief Tony ‘Akatakpo’ Odili, the 91-year-old percussion legend of Highlife, and the oldest living/working Nigerian musician. The West African Highlife Collective is a global gathering of some of Highlife’s greatest veterans. The band has in the past year, in its various forms, graced some of the finest stages in two continents, with performances at the Festivals in Europe to a large, growing audience and at several events in Nigeria, including Felabration and Lights Camera Africa!!! There shall be a pre-concert screening of ‘The Cafe of Dreams’, celebrating the Dolphin Cafe, one of Nigeria’s greatest ever Highlife dance halls of the ‘golden age’ (1956-1967)
