“Slacker” actor and Butthole Surfers drummer Teresa Taylor dies at 60

Teresa Taylor, the former drummer for the Butthole Surfers, and actor who appeared in the cult classic film Slacker, has died. She was 60 years old at the time of her passing. Taylor’s cause of death is due to a lung disease she had been battling for quite a long time.

News of Taylor’s passing comes from her partner Cheryl Curtice, who shared the following Facebook post this past Monday (June 19th):

“Dear friends and loved ones of Teresa Taylor. I want to let you know the sad news. Teresa passed away clean and sober, peacefully in her sleep, this weekend. She was so brave, even in the face of her horrible disease. We were all fortunate to have her beautiful, strong spirit in our lives. She will be forever missed. We will have a memorial service sometime in the future. I love you, beloved Teresa.”

The Butthole Surfers’ Twitter account also shared the following statement: “Teresa Taylor passed away peacefully this weekend after a long battle with lung disease. She will live in our hearts forever. RIP, dear friend.”

The Butthole Surfers is a noise-rock band that formed in 1981; Taylor joined the band in 1983, and while she initially left the act in 1985, she would rejoin and perform with the Butthole Surfers throughout the years.

During her time in the band, Taylor worked on the following Butthole Surfers studio albums: Psychic… Powerless… Another Man’s Sac (released in 1984), Rembrandt Pussyhorse (released in 1986), Locust Abortion Technician (released in 1987), and Hairway to Steven (released in 1988).

Alongside these studio albums, Taylor also took part in creating multiple Butthole Surfers EPs.

Outside of her work with the Butthole Surfers, Taylor is also most famously known for her role in Richard Linklater’s 1990 cult classic film titled Slacker. Slacker is not only a brilliant comedy, but it is also considered one of the most influential films in indie cinema. The only other movie Taylor worked in was a film called Bar-B-Que Movie.

Through her music and the fantastic performance she provided in Slacker, Teresa Taylor brought so much joy into people’s lives. We send our love to Teresa Taylor’s family and loved
