SAG Awards 2022: Ariana DeBose, Troy Kotsur win honours, “Ted Lasso” named best comedy cast

“West Side Story” actress Ariana DeBose and “CODA” cast member Troy Kotsur nabbed supporting movie honours while “Ted Lasso” took home best TV comedy ensemble at Sunday’s Screen Actors Guild Awards.

The 28th SAG Awards ceremony is the first major award show of 2022 and will reveal the top acting contenders heading into the Academy Awards on March 27. (The actors guild comprises the largest Oscars voting bloc.)

Kotsur made history as the first deaf actor to win an individual SAG award while DeBose was emotional in her acceptance speech. “My heart’s beating in my chest right now. It’s taken a long time for me to be comfortable calling myself an actor,” said DeBose, a “Hamilton” alum who started on the stage before she moved to the screen.

And the “Lasso” cast accepted their honour from London where the show is filming. “Even though we’re a complete gaggle of idiots, we appreciate this so much!” said actress Hannah Waddingham.
