#RoundAboutTown With Henri Yire

Afriff2019 was a vibe!
The ecclectic range of movie screening options showed the amazing complexity of today’s movie minds.

I can go on and on but this isn’t the place.
My job today is to give you the scoop on what’s going down this weekend in Lagos.

Everything worth investigating that is.

If you are in Lagos, here’s what you should be doing this weekend.

“HER” is an educative film of thirty (30) minutes inspired by the true story of a young teenage girl met at a local eatery. The young girl was on her period, but unfortunately, could not afford to purchase a sanitary towel, hence her exposure to unhygienic conditions. Upon further enquiries, we found that this was not an isolated incident as girls in a lot of communities cannot afford proper hygienic materials whenever they were on their period. The film explored different themes including period poverty (the inability to afford sanitary materials), rape, child labour, child marriage, child molestation, and institutionalized corruption in Nigeria’s armed forces. HER was made to create awareness and to highlight the current issues relating to the girl child. Our aim at the conversation cafe is to engender community development by showing the resulting effect of these ills, and more importantly, encourage an inclusive attitude that proffers working solutions that can be implemented to solving them. The impact of HER is a far-reaching as we have screened in several corporate organizations, schools and notable gathering in Nigeria and also globally. We will be hosting an intimate screening of HER in November. The screening is so intimate and our screening van admits only admits 10 people per time, so, we would be showing in the following batches:

We hope you’re doing great! Cinema Mon Amour will be meeting on Sunday, November 17th at Alliance Francaise, Ikoyi. This month, we’ll be screening Patria Obscura directed by Marguerite Stephane Ragot. A photographer goes in search of the memory of his grandfathers, Pierre the legionnaire and Paul the paratrooper, who both died some time ago. With them, he explores the history of his family, a history hemmed in by wars and undermined by silence and unspoken resentments. In this brazen film, he reveals the novel of a country, France, at war with itself.
