The Ondaatje Prize, renowned for celebrating literature that captures the essence of a place, has unveiled its shortlist for 2024, per publishingperspectives.com. With an esteemed panel of judges, the Royal Society of Literature has nominated six exceptional titles for this year’s award.
Among the nominees is Isabella Hammad, whose novel “Enter Ghost” has already garnered attention, winning the Aspen Words Literary Prize in New York City. Other notable contenders include Sheila Armstrong’s “Falling Animals” and Noreen Masud’s “A Flat Place.”
The Ondaatje Prize, now in its 20th year, offers a substantial £10,000 purse to the winner. The award is open to fiction, nonfiction, and poetry that evokes the spirit of a place. Eligible works must be authored by citizens of the United Kingdom, the Commonwealth, or the Republic of Ireland, or writers who have been residents in the UK for at least three years.
The winner of the Ondaatje Prize 2024 will be announced on May 14th.
