1. Favourite book ever – I don’t have a favourite
2. Why? I’m not certain but my feeling is that this notion of “favourites” really degrades the nature of my relationship to books and reading. Picking favourites feels a bit off. There are many I love and others that I like (gradations of appreciation) but the idea of one favourite seems crazy to me.
3. Last book read? I’m reading ‘The Unconsoled’ by Kazuo Ishiguro. I recently re-read a book of poetry ‘Lunch Portraits’ by Debora Kuan. I read ‘Johannesburg’ by Fiona Melrose.
4. Packing for a journey and allowed to take one book. What will it be? This answer will always change depending on when the journey takes place. At the moment I might take ‘Longthroat Memoirs – Soups, Sex and Nigerian Tastebuds’ by Yemisi Aribisala.
5. Why? Because there is no one book I would always want to take. Of course, the best thing to take is an e-reader, the book of books. Assuming where I’m going has WiFi. But ‘Longthroat…’ is incredibly witty and it’s got recipes – can’t beat that!
6. Who is your favourite author/writer? Don’t have one favourite.
7. Do you think Nigerians read? Sure, they do.
