The Michael Jackson biopic Michael has grossed $788 million worldwide and is approaching the $800 million mark, while Disney’s The Devil Wears Prada 2 has surpassed $600 million globally, according to weekend box office figures reported May 24, 2026.
Michael, distributed by Lionsgate domestically and Universal internationally, according to variety.com, added $28.5 million overseas this weekend. The film’s cumulative totals stand at $468 million from international markets and $319 million domestically.

With its release in Japan still pending, the musical biopic is on track to overtake 2018’s Bohemian Rhapsody, which earned $911 million, as the highest-grossing musical biopic of all time.
The Devil Wears Prada 2 collected $21 million overseas in its fourth weekend. The Disney comedy sequel has now earned nearly $200 million in North America and $408 million internationally, taking its global total past $600 million.
Disney also launched Star Wars spinoff The Mandalorian and Grogu this weekend, opening to $64 million across 51 international territories. Leading markets included the United Kingdom with $7.1 million, Germany with $6.5 million, China with $5.3 million and Japan with $4.9 million.
In North America, the film earned $82 million for the three-day weekend and was projected to reach $102 million through Memorial Day on Monday. That brings its worldwide opening to $145 million over three days and an estimated $165 million through the four-day holiday.
The debut is on par with Disney’s previous Star Wars spinoff, 2018’s Solo: A Star Wars Story, which opened to $65 million overseas and $84 million domestically, or $103 million through Memorial Day. Solo finished with $392 million globally against a budget near $300 million and became the first Star Wars film to lose money theatrically.
The Mandalorian and Grogu was produced for $165 million and has received stronger reviews and audience response. Directed by Jon Favreau, the film continues the Disney+ series and stars Pedro Pascal as Din Djarin. It is the first Star Wars theatrical release since 2019’s The Rise of Skywalker. Disney’s next entry, Star Wars: Starfighter directed by Shawn Levy and starring Ryan Gosling, is slated for summer 2027.
The results come as studios test theatrical demand for major franchises after several years of prioritising streaming releases. The Mandalorian and Grogu represents Disney’s effort to return Star Wars to cinemas amid a slate of Disney+ series including The Book of Boba Fett, Ahsoka and Andor.
