Apple Music has announced Nigerian singer-songwriter Majeeed as the latest ‘Up Next’ artiste in Nigeria.
Born Ekeh Chiaka Joseph, the announcement was made by the streaming platform on Wednesday 27 July.
‘Up Next’ is Apple Music’s monthly artiste programme geared towards identifying, showcasing, and elevating rising star talent. Each month, Apple Music’s editorial team selects an artiste to promote by raising awareness of the artist to its growing global audience of music fans on the platform.
Majeed said emerging as the ‘Up Next’ artiste for the month was a dream come true. He said, “Being Up Next on Apple Music is a dream come true and has given me the zeal and opportunity to strive even further because now I know a lot of people are listening and connecting to my story.
“My music is an expression of my reality and experiences of many topics that are not discussed enough.”
Having established himself as a prolific songwriter, working with artistes like Tiwa Savage, Seyi Shay, and Zuchu, Majeeed independently released his breakthrough single “Time” in 2021 to critical acclaim.
His debut EP, Bitter Sweet (2022), released through Dream Empire Music and available to stream on Apple Music, is a six-track exploration of a toxic relationship that relays universal themes of disconnection and misunderstandings, spearheaded by the dancefloor-rooted lead single “Yawa No Dey End”.
