Kevin Hart faces criticism after body shaming Timothée Chalamet

Kevin Hart has sparked a social media backlash following comments regarding actor Timothée Chalamet’s physique during an appearance on the Call Her Daddy podcast, per unilad.com.

While promoting his upcoming Netflix special, “The Roast of Kevin Hart,” the 46-year-old comedian described the Oscar-nominated actor as having the “body of a German woman,” a remark that viewers have since labelled as “cringe” and “insensitive.”

The incident occurred during a rapid-fire roast segment hosted by Alex Cooper. Although the host suggested the exercise was “all fun and games,” Hart’s improvised jab at the 30-year-old Marty Supreme star met with a cold reception from Chalamet’s fanbase. While Hart successfully joked about other figures including Elon Musk, Nick Cannon and Patrick Mahomes, the comment regarding Chalamet’s weight touched on a documented sensitivity for the actor.

Chalamet has previously spoken about the professional difficulties he faced due to his slender frame. In a 2024 interview, he revealed that agents once discouraged him from auditioning for major projects because he was unable to gain weight. The actor noted that his metabolism prevented him from meeting the physical requirements often expected for mainstream “leading man” roles, eventually leading him to seek opportunities in independent cinema.

The rejection of traditional Hollywood body standards eventually led to Chalamet’s breakthrough in Call Me By Your Name. Despite his success, the actor remains candid about the physical demands of his roles, recently noting he had to gain 20 pounds to portray Bob Dylan because he was naturally “thinner than the guy.”

Body shaming in Hollywood has become an increasingly scrutinised topic, with male actors more frequently discussing the psychological and professional pressures of maintaining specific physiques for the screen.
