John Legend, Brandi Carlile, Lionel Richie, others to perform at MusiCares tribute event
When Berry Gordy and Smokey Robinson are recognized as the Recording Academy’s 2023 MusiCares Person of the Year and 2024 Grammy Person of the Year, respectively, John Legend, Brandi Carlile, Sheryl Crow, and Lionel Richie will be among the artists performing in tribute to them.
It’s the first time the tribute ceremony will honour two greats and the memorial concert and gala will be held in Los Angeles on February 3 — two days before the Grammy Awards — and the academy reportedly released the lineup on Thursday.
Jimmie Allen, Chloe X Halle, The Isley Brothers, Mumford & Sons, The Temptations, PJ Morton, Rita Wilson, Dionne Warwick, and Trombone Shorty are among the additional acts revealed.
In the past, Joni Mitchell, Quincy Jones, Stevie Wonder, Elton John, Bruce Springsteen, Aretha Franklin, Dolly Parton, and Aerosmith have received MusiCares awards.
Gordy, a music mogul who founded the Motown record label, was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1988.
