‘Funmilayo Ransome Kuti’ biopic set to hit cinemas nationwide

Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti, the biopic of the famed activist and mother of Afrobeat legend, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, is hitting theatres nationwide in Nigeria this Friday, May 17. 

The director, Bolanle Austen-Peters, announced on her Instagram page that the movie will be available in cinemas across Nigeria from this Friday.

The award-winning film, which took home Best Movie Writing at the Africa Magic Viewer’s Choice Awards (AMVCA), and Best Movie and Best Screenplay at 12th Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF), promises a powerful look at Ransome-Kuti’s life and legacy.  

Funmilayo Ransome Kuti is written by Tunde Babalola and chronicles the life of the late Funmilayo Ransome Kuti, a renowned Nigerian educator, political campaigner and women’s rights activist.

 

Starring a host of talented actors including Kehinde Bankole, Ajoke Silva, Adunni Ade, Adebayo Salami, Omowunmi Dada, Jide Kosoko and a host of others, the film also features appearances by Femi Kuti and Yeni Kuti, the late icon’s grandchildren.

The premiere of Funmilayo Ransome Kuti took place on Monday in Lagos, with notable attendees such as Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State, former Governor Donald Duke of Cross River State, the Ransome Kuti Family, as well as actors and crew of the award-winning film.
