Drake copyright lawsuit over ‘Janice STFU’ hook voluntarily dismissed

Aviel Hirschfield has voluntarily dismissed a copyright lawsuit against Canadian rapper Drake, just 10 days after alleging the artist stole the chorus for his chart-topping single Janice STFU, per cbc.ca.

Court documents reveal that the Grammy Award-winning producer and his legal team withdrew the case in its entirety without prejudice on October 28.

The withdrawal follows forceful denials from Drake’s representatives, who described the allegations as completely false and insisted the rapper had no connection to or knowledge of Hirschfield.

The suit, originally filed on October 16, claimed Hirschfield wrote and recorded the song’s chorus while driving to Seattle. Hirschfield alleged he sent the demo to producers associated with Drake, only to later hear his exact lyrics and melody featured on the track without credit or compensation.

Drake’s legal counsel firmly rejected the claims, stating there was not one iota of truth to the accusations.

“Janice STFU” debuted at No. 1 on both the Billboard Hot 100 and the Billboard Global 200 following its release in May. The track marked Drake’s 14th chart-topping single, breaking his tie with Michael Jackson for the most No. 1 hits by a male solo artist.
