Davido secures 3 Grammy nominations for 2024

Davido has made history with three Grammy nominations for the upcoming 2024 Grammy Awards. The Nigerian Afrobeats sensation’s latest album, Timeless, earned him a nomination in the Best Global Album category. Additionally, his track “Unavailable* is in the running for Best African Performance, while “Feel” has been recognised in the Best Global Music Performance category. 

This marks Davido’s first triple Grammy nomination, a feat he celebrated on Twitter, declaring, “3 nominations at the Grammys!! Delay is not Denial!! 🏆🌎” 

In another spotlight, SZA emerges as a dominating force in the 2024 Grammy nominations, leading with an impressive nine nods. Her revenge anthem, Kill Bill, has earned recognition in multiple categories, including Record of the Year, Song of the Year and Best R&B Performance. Moreover, her critically acclaimed album, SOS, is contending for Album of the Year and Best Progressive R&B Album. The overall trend in the nominations showcases female artistes outperforming their male counterparts, with notable names like Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish, Miley Cyrus, and Olivia Rodrigo receiving multiple nominations.

Recording Academy CEO and President Harvey Mason jr. expressed his satisfaction with the increased representation of women among the nominees, emphasising its positive impact on aspiring creators. SZA continues to dominate with nominations in various categories, including Best Traditional R&B Performance, Best R&B Song, Best Melodic Rap Performance, and Best Pop Duo/group Performance.

The 2024 Grammy Awards will introduce three new categories: Best Pop Dance Recording, Best African Music Performance, and Best Alternative Jazz Album.

Davido’s nomination for Best African Music Performance highlights the increasing global recognition of Afrobeats. Other nominees in this category include Asake, Olamide, Ayra Starr, Tyla and the Grammy-winning Burna Boy.

The awards ceremony, set to air on February 4, 2024, live on CBS and Paramount+ from the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, promises a celebration of musical diversity and talent on the international stage.
